Antiquing is apparently now a word!
Pezenas is famous for its antiques and bric a brac stores and on the 1st May 2011 the streets of Pezenas are taken over with antique dealers.
As usual the weather was great so it was a lovely way to pass a day, browsing the antiques and bric-a-brac, stopping for coffee, a bit more of a browse, glass of wine, pick up the heavy purchases and head off home. Next projects are to clean up a large copper cauldron which will serve as a plant pot holder “cache-pots” in french and to boil wash some beautiful linen sheets.
As well as these major twice yearly events there are regular “vide greniers” (garage sales) and “puces” (flea markets) in the little villages surrounding Pezenas. Also in Beziers there is a brocante one Sunday a month where you can find great bargains.
Year round there are also “trocante” dealers, where owners put their furniture and household items up for sale in a shop and the shop owner takes a commission on any sales. There are so many large old houses that are being refreshed in this area and the lovely but old furniture that doesn’t fit the new decor ends up in these “trocs”.
The next big event is in October 2011, a repeat of Sunday’s event but with “new” items to browse.
Come down for a week or a weekend and explore the some 40 different “brocante” shops in Pezenas as well as the street market.
